DEFT Zero: After more than two years of development, the Ubuntu-based DEFT Linux distribution with specialized tools for forensic analysis has released its first final version.
The DEFT (Digital Evidence & Forensic Toolkit) distribution is a customized distribution of Ubuntu Linux and offers an easy-to-use system that includes excellent detection and hardware support and some of the best open source applications for digital incident response and forensic analysis.
The new version is called DEFT Zero and comes in version 2017.1. It is much more compact and lightweight, but it brings some useful new features:.
“DEFT Zero version 2.017.1 ready for download. I can finally announce that a stable version of DEFT Zero is available. DEFT Zero is a light version specifically designed to perform digital evidence collection. Among the most important features are support for NVMExpress memory (MacBook 2015), eMMC and UEFI.
The new version of DEFT Zero requires significantly less RAM and a CD-ROM or USB drive. It takes about 400 MB, which allows it to run in RAM even on computers with low hardware resources. The distribution is based on Lubuntu 14.04.02 LTS.”
