Artificial Intelligence is closer to us than we might think, and the American fried chicken chain KFC has not left this technology unexploited.
KFC, through its Chinese division, in partnership with Baidu Inc. – better known as China’s Google – has created a new kind of smart restaurant in Beijing, equipped with AI-based kiosks to meet the needs of its customers.
These kiosks will benefit from artificial intelligence technology, developed by Baidu. After analyzing the age, gender and facial expressions of customers using facial recognition technology, the kiosk will offer appropriate food options.
Additionally, it will also store photo along with their order details. So, after two or more visits, the kiosk could already know which fried chicken you are going to order.
KFC's proposed plan to remember food choices in the form of photos as well as order details may be hard for many people to stomach. But the technology is still an ongoing experiment, and it's too early to expect KFC to release a yearbook featuring its top patrons.
This isn't the first time Colonel Sanders' Kentucky Fried Chicken has offered some futuristic perks to its customers. Earlier this year, the company — in partnership with Baidu — introduced an order-taking robot called Dumi to a restaurant located inside the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
