A few months ago, one of the largest online robberies took place, with a loot of $81 million at a bank in Bangladesh. The hackers or the hacker managed to breach the Society for Worldwide Interbank Telecommunication (SWIFT) security system, transferring the money out of the bank to other accounts.
The February SWIFT heist was followed by others. SWIFT officials accused the Bangladesh Bank of lax security and threatened to stop supporting banks that did not improve their defenses.
Despite the warning, as we mentioned above, the attackers managed to "lift" $10 million from Ukraine in June and August.
So today Reuters reports that some of the money from the Bangladesh robbery was found in a casino in the Philippines.
A Philippine court ruled in September that the money belongs to the Bangladesh bank.
These funds were delivered by casino operator Eastern Hawaii Leisure Company and its director Kim Wong.
Mr. Kim Wong reported that the money came from two Chinese high-rollers.
Bangladesh's ambassador to the Philippines, John Gomes, told Reuters that more money would follow:
"Now that the process for this $10 million issue is more or less complete, we'll move on to the rest.".
