Greece is participating for the first time in the most important European Competition Cyber Security the European Cyber Security Challenge 2016, is taking place on 7-10 November 2016 in Düsseldorf , Germany. The competition is organized by ENISA, the European Union's competent body for Cyber Security issues.

On a global scale, there is an ever-increasing need to protect countries' technological infrastructures, as cyberattacks by malicious hackers have become a daily occurrence. While Cybersecurity is a field in constant growth and development, there is still not a sufficient number of professionals to meet the huge demand at an international level. To address this shortage and to develop a new generation of IT specialists in Cybersecurity, many countries are organizing local competitions with the aim of finding talent, who will be trained to meet the needs of the market. The annual European Cyber Security Challenge has a pan-European scope, and aims to attract new talent in the field of Cybersecurity, while also promoting competition between countries.
The competition will feature national teams from 10 countries, who will compete against each other in challenges related to information security and hacking, with the aim of identifying the country with the greatest talent in the field of Cybersecurity. Only young people aged 14-30 who are not already working in companies related to Cybersecurity are eligible to participate in the competition.
The Greek National Cybersecurity Team that will participate in the European competition consists of 10 young people, aged 16 to 29, who are students or employees in companies not related to information security. The common denominator is the love for technology and the passion for the secrets of Cybersecurity. The Greek mission is coordinated by the Cybersecurity company TwelveSec and the Department of Digital Systems of the University of Piraeus, while its sponsors are the companies First Data and Encode. For the success of this joint effort, the entire information security community of Greece has been mobilized, which actively helped in the training and preparation of our team for this difficult competition. Organizations and companies associated with Cybersecurity have also contributed, such as the SecNews, the BSides Athens community, as well as the Department of Information & Communication Systems Engineering of the University of the Aegean.
