DNS provider DDoSed leads to disruption in internet access on the West and East Coasts of the United States.
Twitter, Spotify, Reddit, The New York Times, and more are not available for US visitors.
Internet service was disrupted for many people in the Eastern and Western United States on Friday, October 21, after a hacker attacked a web-hosting service. The outage was massive, as can be seen from the breadth of the areas affected.
The internet outage occurred after unknown hackers launched a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on Dyn Inc, a prominent Domain Name Server provider.
“Some of our customers may see increased DNS latency queries and experience latency in the propagation zone during this period,” Dyn said in a post on website . “Our engineers continue to work to mitigate this issue.”
Twitter, Spotify, Reddit, and The New York Times, among other sites, were all reported to have been disrupted, according to numerous posts from people on social media. According to a post on Hacker News, these sites have been affected with many unable to use their services.
Although reports indicate that it is mostly those based in the US that users on the East Coast are unable to access the internet, some European users have also complained about the unavailability of their websites.
