Computer manufacturer Lenovo sent us its official position on publications that stated that the company prohibits the installation of operating systems other than the Windows 10 that is already installed.
Microsoft loves Linux: is Microsoft asking for a divorce?
Here is the e-mail we received:
As the world’s No. 1 PC company, we continue to focus on delivering value to PC users and creating unique products with innovative form factors, such as the Yoga series. Lenovo’s consumer Windows PCs are specifically designed for and extensively tested on Windows 10. The Yoga 900 / 900S, whose display folds 360 degrees, are specifically designed to maximize the touch functionality of Windows 10. The design of Yoga products requires very specific, complex and unique drivers, which require even more testing to ensure top performance on Windows 10. In order to support Yoga products and the market-innovative 360-degree folding design in the best possible way, we used a storage controller, which unfortunately is not supported by the Linux operating system and therefore does not allow its installation. In addition to the installation limitation imposed by the controller, other advanced features offered by the Yoga design may not work with current Linux products.
Lenovo does not intentionally prevent its customers from using other operating systems, such as Linux, on Yoga products or any of its other devices and is fully committed to offering Linux installation certifications and guidance on a wide range of eligible products.
