Victims of the Wildfire ransomware can decrypt their files without paying the ransom to the extortionists, as researchers from the No More Ransom website have released a free decryption tool.
For those who don't know, No More Ransom provides the keys to unlock files from various types of ransomware, such as: Shade, Coinvault, Rannoh, Rakhn and recently Wildfire.
No More Ransom is a collaborative project between Europol, the Dutch Police, Intel Security, and Kaspersky Lab.
The ransomware demands that its victims pay 1.5 Bitcoins to decrypt their files. However, researchers at McAfee Labs, part of Intel Security, report that the crooks are open to negotiation, often accepting as little as half (0.5) Bitcoin as payment.
Most ransomware victims are located in the Netherlands and Belgium, and the malware is spread via phishing emails.
Researchers working with law enforcement were able to examine the ransomware's control server, and discovered that over a period of one month the malware managed to infect 5,309 systems and generated revenue of 136 Bitcoins or €70,332 to the crooks running it.
The tool you will find below contains 1,600 WF ransomware decryption keys.
