Microsoft released today on Patch Tuesday a new updated version of the so-called “Windows 7 Upgrade Compatibility Update.” The update has the code name: KB2952664, and it is aimed at upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10.
Specifically, this update does nothing more than “help Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to facilitate the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows 10,” according to the information published in the KB.
So if you want to avoid the upgrade, remove or do not install the KB2952664 update.
Microsoft has announced a more aggressive promotion of Windows 10 since 2016. The company is fully aware that some users do not like the way it promotes Windows 10, but it considers its goal to get everyone to upgrade to Windows 10 more important so that it does not have to release updates for multiple operating systems.
Let's not forget the company's goal of having Windows 10 installed on 1 billion devices by 2017.
