Three in 10 smartphone users do not «lock» their device

As the threat to internet security increases and intensifies, alongside the spread of “smart” devices, a large number of users appear extremely negligent in this specific area.
According to a social media study on smartphone usage by ESET, presented at Mobile World Congress, now about 10% of surveyed users have lost or become victims of theft of their device in the past 12 months. Additionally, 29.3% do not lock their smartphone, while roughly 20% do not perform any backup of their data.
As mentioned in a related post on the SEPE website, according to the research results, 19,7% of users actually do not create any backups of their data. There is a percentage of 35,7% that does it only occasionally, with 19,9% stating that they create backups daily, 14,7% weekly and 10% monthly.
According to the research, 29.3% do not lock the phone or the screen. However, the overwhelming majority, 55.3%, uses a PIN number for locking, 12.5% uses fingerprints, and 3% uses facial recognition.
According to ESET, one of the best ways to protect against access to business networks, as well as personal email messages, is the use of two-factor authentication. At this point, the research also found a positive finding, as 64.9% of respondents already use authentication for online services (e.g., via text messages).
This can be particularly important for services such as online banking, which are used by 53% of respondents. Furthermore, the survey highlighted the importance of protecting the “cloud” of smartphone, as 26.9% already use these cloud services exclusively and 23.1% store data both locally and in the cloud.
