Chinese Bitcoin exchange Bter was breached by hackers on Valentine's Day who managed to steal $1.75 million in Bitcoins.
The company has not revealed much about the breach, other than that 7,170 BTC were stolen from the offline wallet they were using on February 14, via a single link leading to the platform.
The company is currently offering 720 BTC – approximately $170,000 – for the recovery of the stolen digital currencies.
This is the second major Bitcoin robbery via hack in the last two months. Previously, the Slovenian Bitcoin exchange company, Bitstamp, lost about 5 million dollars in January.
It is likely that this year's discussion around Bitcoin will focus more on security than on whether businesses or individuals choose to adopt the digital currency.
