Facebook: Upgrades to Search and Trending

Facebook has announced a series of upgrades to Search and Trending .

As for searches, the update makes it easier to find posts: "You told us that the most important thing is to be able to find posts you've seen in the past, and now you can. With a quick search, you can return to a fun video from your graduation, an article you wanted to read, or photos from your friend's wedding last summer," a related announcement states.

At the same time, it is noted that there is still the possibility of searching with phrases such as "my friends who live in New York". However, it is emphasized that search results are personalized and unique to each user, and, "as always, you can only see things that have been shared with you".

These updates are designed specifically for mobile devices, and will be available for both desktop and Facebook on iPhone. Initially, they will only affect the US English version of the social network.

As for Trending now, its arrival on mobile devices was announced, with the aim of making it easier for users to search for articles from different sources.

“Now, when you select a topic in Trending, you’ll see discussions in up to five different categories: Articles (see how the media is covering the topic), In the Story (see posts from people involved in the topic), Friends and Groups (shows you what people in your network are saying), Near the Scene (shows you posts from people near where the story is happening), Live Feed (a real-time stream of relevant reactions from people around the world).

The Feed under the new categories will continue to display relevant posts depending on the level of engagement, timing, etc.

The way Trending topics are determined has not changed, and only public posts and posts that the user can see (from friends, groups they belong to, etc.) will continue to appear.

This update will initially be available to users in the US (web and Android). Support for iOS and other countries is expected to follow.
