The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Directorate arrested a 40-year-old Greek national for violating personal data legislation.
A 40-year-old Greek national was arrested yesterday (29-07-2014) by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate for violating the legislation concerning the protection of individuals from the processing of personal data.
In particular, in the previous period, a local woman complained to the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime that on erotic content websites on the internet, there were publications with video material, which concerned her personal moments.
From the methodical online research that followed, the electronic traces of the material in question were identified as well as the details of the person who had published it online.
A police team conducted a search, in the presence of a Judicial Officer, at the 40-year-old's home in an area of Athens, where the following were found and seized:
- (1) USB stick storage device
- (2) optical discs
- (8) mobile phone sim cards
- (2) packages with mobile phone card details and
- (1) camera.
However, the 40-year-old Greek national was located and arrested in an area of Arcadia, while the search carried out at the place where he resided resulted in the following being found and seized:
- (1) desktop computer,
- (2) mobile phones,
- (1) SIM card,
- (1) external hard drive and
- (10) digital discs.
From the specialized research that followed on the above digital media, a large amount of video footage of the victim was found stored, which had been posted on dozens of internet websites.
The seized digital evidence will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for further laboratory examination.
The arrested person with the case file filed against him was brought today to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
