German Chancellor Angela Merkel 's Facebook page has been flooded with spam containing all kinds of malicious images and insults.
According to the BBC, the altered images posted on the Chancellor's official social media account compare her to Nazi leaders such as Hitler.
The origin of the malicious content has not been determined, but many speculate that it was posted by Ukrainian users upset by Merkel's alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Angela Merkel's office issued a statement yesterday, saying that unwanted comments should be deleted and expressed regret that the Chancellor's true work was lost in the mass of slanderous comments.
It all started when a video of the German chancellor sitting next to the Russian president during the World Cup final in Brazil was released.
