Microsoft is reportedly in the process of developing the second update (Update 2) of its Windows 8.1 operating system. The company continues its efforts to improve its modern platform and according to some new rumors, Redmond is ready to move to RTM of Update 2.
The news comes via Russian leaker Wzor, who has leaked quite a few Windows builds so far. The Wzor team reportedly said that Windows 8.1 Update 2 is on track and will reach RTM this week, although the company has not announced anything on the matter.
“At the moment I can’t give an exact date of RTM signing. Although next week (June 23 – 27) a very important event is planned inside Microsoft. I’m not sure what will happen, but most likely we will have the first RTM-Escrow sign off build,” Wzor says in Russian.
Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft's operating system division, said at BUILD 2014 that Redmond is working on some very big changes to its modern platform, planning to add not only a Start menu, but also options to run Metro apps in their own dedicated windows right on the desktop.
Of course, we have also read rumors from sources close to the development process, which state that the return of the Start menu may be delayed until early 2015, when the company releases Windows 9. Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
