DCRS Wireless charging system for electrical devices

Researchers at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) developed DCRS , a wireless charging system capable of charging up to 40 smartphones simultaneously, from a distance of 5 meters.

The system is called DCRS (Dipole Coil Resonant System) and uses magnetic fields to transfer electrical energy. The KAIST system is based on the CMRS (Coupled Magnetic Resonance System) first introduced by MIT in 2007.

However, the Dipole Coil Resonant System created by the Koreans incorporates a series of elements that allow the system to be commercially exploited, unlike the previous CMRS.

Key points of differentiation and improvement are the complex coil structure requiring four coils, the overall size and the more efficient energy transfer.

The coil structure of the Dipole Coil Resonant System consists of two magnetic dipole coils. The primary coil induces the magnetic field and the secondary coil receives the electrical energy.

The system is compact in size and can scale to achieve power output of up to 209 Watts at a frequency of 20 kHz.

Although similar systems have been developed by other researchers, even with a greater range, the KAIST system is the only one that manages to charge so many devices simultaneously.

In fact, its creators believe that their system has enough power to charge larger devices such as televisions and computers.
