For the first time, Reporters Without Borders is publishing a list of profiles of the “100 information heroes”for World Press Freedom Day (today, May 3).
Through their work and activism, these “100 heroes” have helped promote press freedom as enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The freedom “to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
The 100 journalists (there are of course others who are not on the list) have as their ideal the service of the common good and can serve as role models.
“World Press Freedom Day” was created at the initiative of Reporters Without Borders.
“Today, with the list of 100, we pay tribute to the courage of journalists and bloggers who sacrifice their safety and sometimes their lives for their mission,” said Reporters Without Borders Secretary General Christophe Deloire.
