A rumor has been circulating for the past few days that iPhones charge faster if the device is in Airplane Mode. The rumor seems to be true when you consider that the device is not searching for a signal, GPS and generally all the functions of the device are in “Sleep” mode.
Using an iPhone 5s as a test device, the website Tuaw performed two charging cycles via a wall outlet. One with Airplane Mode turned off and one with Airplane Mode turned on.
With the feature disabled, they were able to charge from 1% to 25% in 21 minutes. 50% took 45 minutes, and 95% took an hour and 32 minutes.
With airplane mode now enabled. According to rumors we should have high expectations.
However, charging to 25% took 18 minutes, and charging to 50% took about 43 minutes. Charging to 95% took an hour and 29 minutes.
Ultimately, there is definitely a difference, but not enough to be worth mentioning.
