Online piracy is something that has been around for years and continues to increase every year.
According to a new study conducted by NBC Universal, in January 432 million people used the Internet to gain illegal access to copyrighted content.
Let's get to the big numbers now... The total bandwidth consumed by pirates was approximately 9,567 petabytes per month in 2012, and most of it was transmitted through BitTorrent clients.
Figures show that almost a quarter of all Internet traffic is used by pirates.
The study was conducted by NetNames ' Piracy Analysis team and is titled "Sizing the Piracy Universe."
The study's findings not only provide a realistic picture of the phenomenon, but also prove that anti-piracy measures are ineffective.
