Bitcoins are becoming more and more popular, and unfortunately for its fans, this means that it is attracting more and more attention from government agencies. In fact, what is strange is that Bitcoin took so long to come to the attention of the authorities.
As we mentioned in our previous article, US authorities have begun to look into the matter. Bitcoins are becoming more and more famous, which means they are attracting more and more attention from government agencies. The fact that there are not that many Bitcoins in circulation may be to blame for this, perhaps more than the slowness of government services around the world.
But things are changing FAST.
Apparently, the two dozen companies that use Bitcoins in the US have been subpoenaed by the New York State banking regulator in an effort to investigate whether the vendors are complying with the state's laws and regulations.
Specifically, the regulator wants to know whether companies employ proper anti-money laundering techniques, as well as whether they comply with securities transfer rules.
In short, it seems that the state agency is already certain that the companies are operating illegally.
