Another example of how the more you forbid someone from seeing or doing something, the more they will attract interest. A film banned in New Zealand is soaring up local torrent lists.

New Zealand has censored and banned the screening of the Franco-American horror film “Maniac,” starring Elijah Wood, deeming the film too disturbing for cinemas or DVD stores, TorrentFreak .

The film, which is a bloodbath and shot through the eyes of a serial killer, can only be shown at special festival screenings in New Zealand, at the Office of Film and Literature.

"Banning the film from screening beyond festivals is an insult to the intelligence of New Zealand's adult population and does nothing more than serve as an open invitation to illegal pirate torrents," said Neil Foley.

As for the piracy of the film, the US currently holds 18.4% of downloads, the UK 8.6%, and New Zealand 6.7%. Brazil, the Philippines, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Israel, and Argentina complete the ten countries interested in the title.
