France demands Apple pay €5 million in taxes on 2011 iPad sales

A French professional association that collects artists' copyright revenue has charged Apple $5 million in taxes linked to iPad sales in 2011.

The association known as SACEM is demanding 5 million euros from Apple as a tax on the grounds that the iPad is capable of reproducing copyrighted material, while this amount comes not only from France but also from other European countries such as Germany.

Once SACEM collects its taxes, it then distributes them to all writers, creators, producers, actors and others, where their work is reproduced via the iPad.

According to the association, Apple charged this extra amount to consumers who bought iPads in 2011, but never gave the money to the association.

After the announcement of Apple's latest financial quarter, and the excessive amounts of money it has outside America, many began to move more threateningly, especially regarding taxes, against the company.

Of course, the amount France is asking for is nothing compared to the billions in taxes it has saved by not sending its money to America.
