Microsoft should hire Jonathan Ive because the Xbox One is just ugly

Jonathan Ive

If you are a gamer, but even if you are involved in technology, you would surely know that yesterday Microsoft presented its new console to the public called Xbox One.

The presentation, although it was more reminiscent of Home Cinema, a lot of television, my dear, and the bad thing for us is that in Greece half of these services will not be available, however the inside of the device is the least impressive. It runs three different operating systems! The first is the one it uses for games, which has been adapted to give absolute freedom to game creators. And of course on the other hand we have Windows for all other applications, with the third being the link between the two. It also has an eight-core 1.6GHz AMD processor along with an integrated dedicated 800MHz graphics processor, 8GB of RAM, 50Gb six-speed Blu-ray, and Gigabit Ethernet.

So far we have to say that we were impressed but if we look at the device externally there, and we are not the only ones, we were amused in the bad sense of the word. The Xbox One is a monolithic construction, reminiscent of a combination of VHS from the '80s with a PC box. The design has gone for a walk, an area that Apple has invested a lot in for years and where Jonathan Ive has excelled.

And to be objective, the design has also disappeared from consoles from other companies such as Sony's Playstation or Nintendo's Wii 2. So there were not a few who laughed at the appearance of the Xbox One and the first jokes about how in three months from now Microsoft will renew it by introducing a thinner model were making the rounds on the internet.

It's time for these companies to understand that design and simplicity have entered our lives and we often seek appearances as simple and beautiful as those found in Apple products. No one wants a console in their hi-tech living room in 2013 that will remind them of their grandmother's VHS and that will take up so much time.

Just think for a moment how much better the Xbox One would look if it had been designed by Apple's Jonathan Ive.
