Tim Cook, after announcing Apple's financial results for the first quarter of 2013, answered a series of questions from reporters.
One of the questions concerned the major delays seen in Apple's production line this quarter, especially in products like the new iMacs.
Tim Cook responded by saying that he doesn't waste much time looking back. However, if he could turn back time, he would definitely delay the presentation of the new iMac models since the delays were ultimately too long for consumers. In fact, he compared their presentation to that of the iPad Mini, stating that the calculations for the latter were accurate and he liked that so many people found it available so soon since that was the main desire of consumers. On the contrary, for the iMacs, he would have wished that they had been presented a few months later so that there would have been minimal delays and less indignant customers.
I don't spend a lot of time looking back… If we could run it over, I would have announced the iMac after the turn of the year… we felt our customers had to wait too long for that specific product… Where the iPad mini was in shortage in the December quarter, I would not have done that differently because we were able to get the product out to many customers that wanted it. In retrospect, I wish it [iMac] was after the turn of the year so customers wouldn't have had to wait as long as they did.
