According to a report by Counterpoint Research, Apple has for the first time in six years taken first place in the Japanese phone market, dethroning Sharp, which had dominated in recent years.
Apple, in particular, captured 15 percent of the market, surpassing Sharp and Fujitsu, which remained at 14 percent each. Last year, with the launch of the iPhone 4S, the company managed to take first place in a few quarters but never for the entire year! This is a particularly significant achievement considering the difficulties of the Japanese market, which is traditionally dominated by local companies and feature phones.
Let us recall that Apple for the first time took first place in phone sales in the US last quarter, marking another milestone in the company's entry into this market.
