We've talked about the iWatch before, and perhaps it's a unique idea that will bring Apple to a position it has known how to handle well for years, that of redefining an industry and taking something dysfunctional and within a few months, with its redesign, making it a must-have for all consumers.
Rumors and "estimates" from two very large newspapers, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, have Apple feverishly preparing a "smart" watch. And not just any watch, but one that will feature a "screen" made of curved glass.
As we have mentioned in the past, both newspapers are considered among the most reliable sources when it comes to rumors about future Apple products and have proven this countless times in the past.
In its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., Apple is experimenting with wristwatch-like devices made of curved glass, according to people familiar with the company's explorations, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because they are not allowed to publicly discuss unreleased products. Such a watch would operate Apple's iOS platform, two people said, and stand apart from competitors based on the company's understanding of how such glass can curve around the human body.
The technology already exists, pioneered by Corning Glass Technologies, which has introduced the flexible glass Willow Glass, but no one can be sure about the type and design of the smartwatch. The report by both newspapers is based simply on information from "sources familiar with the matter", but also the opinion of people involved in this technology, such as Corning Glass CEO Pete Bocko.
There is no clear indication yet as to when we will see such a watch on the market, but it is now almost certain that Apple is working on another product and wants to revolutionize it once again.
