It seems like it's been a tough week for Windows users . After MyFitnessPal and Amtrak announced their departure from Windows Phone, the New York Times has decided to do the same, but only for computers and tablets running its store app.

As with other layoffs, the New York Times recommends that users turn to its website to read the news.
As the company informed:
“The New York Times will no longer support the NYTimes app for Windows tablets and computers. You can access a more comprehensive version of The New York Times through your device’s browser on our website, nytimes.com. The NYTimes website includes the same content as the app, as well as interactive articles, expanded video capabilities and richer article content.”
Seeing the New York Times leave Windows is a bit of a surprise, especially since the company launched its app with a lot of hype back in 2012 when Microsoft introduced Windows 8, explaining that it was a big bet on Redmond's modern platform.
But now it seems that Windows Store apps are still not gaining traction among companies, despite Microsoft pushing hard for their adoption.
It remains to be seen whether the New York Times will return in the future with a universal app.
