A hacker from Cameroon was exposed in the USA after being arrested for the illegal acquisition of airline tickets worth 2 million dollars through a massive phishing email campaign.

Eric Donys Simeu is accused of targeting employees from different airlines and travel agencies in the USA with fake emails requesting their login credentials. Using the stolen credentials, it appears he issued countless airline tickets that he either used himself or sold to travelers in West Africa.

Simeu, who was also caught using the fake identity Martell Collins, specifically targeted employees who had access to the Global Distribution System (GDS) which travel companies use to access their servers and perform their tasks, including ticket issuance.
The hacker carried out a phishing campaign against 2 specific targets in Texas and Georgia that use GDS, and thus got on the radar of US authorities. The names of the companies were not disclosed, but it is known that the phishing campaign took place between July 2011 and September 2014.
The hacker used one of the fake boarding cards in September 2014 to travel from Morocco to France with a forged English passport named Martell Collins. He was arrested with the help of French authorities and was released last week, according to the US Department of Justice.
The US prosecutor, John Horn added that international cooperation among authorities was the key to the arrest of the hacker. Simeu faces federal charges of conspiracy, fraud, cyber fraud and device access fraud. The case is still being investigated by the FBI.
