Microsoft co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen met while both students at Lakeside School, a private school in Seattle.
Although Allen was two years older than him, they immediately became friends due to their shared love of computers. One thing the two friends often did was hack computers!
They even came up with a plan that they thought would help Bill Gates meet girls! They hacked into their school's computer and enrolled him in classes where he would be the only boy, as he confessed in an interview with the BBC!
Unfortunately, as he told the BBC's Kirsty Young, this didn't really help him as the two friends had hoped. Here's what he said:
"Paul changed the school schedule via the computer with me! Unfortunately for him because he's two years older than me at the time he had finished school and was in college. And so I was the one who took advantage of our plan and had all these beautiful girls sitting around me. Of course it wasn't like I was talking to them or anything, they were just there next to me! I think I was really bad at talking to girls. I was always thinking about asking them out but that was it. Later on when I went to Harvard I became a little more sociable but I was still below average when it came to talking to girls!"
Of course, if any of these girls knew what the two friends had done, they would probably consider it romantic!
In this BBC interview, Bill Gates also stated that when his company was still small, he knew all the license plates of his employees' cars by heart, so he could look in the parking lot and know what time everyone was coming and going! Of course, when Microsoft grew, he couldn't continue to do that!
