The extremist group ISIS is trying to infiltrate the Indian hacking community by offering them money to breach government sites. 30,000 people on social media have already made contact with the group.
“There are various underground communities online that hackers frequently communicate with. Our investigation has shown that in the last six months, there have been many offers to steal government data and huge amounts of money have been offered to hackers. Never before has such an amount been offered to an Indian hacker. We found that the offers were made to spread ISIS in the country,” said cybercrime expert Kislay Choudhary.
Stealing government data through cyberattacks is a specialty of the Daesh group. ISIS has already run a major campaign through social media and 30,000 young people have contacted them.
Daesh focus the recruitment process of new members on the Indian hacking community and many hackers are located in various parts of southern India including Kashmir, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Indian operators create local content to spread their propaganda in various languages on the internet. Secret services have already arrested 12 suspects in India who were planning an attack on Republic Day.
“The work of Indian operators is to identify individuals who share posts supportive of ISIS and against the Western world. Such users are likely supporters of ISIS. After evaluating their mindset, content and videos that support the Islamic State are shared and if they show interest they are recruited into the terrorist group” said a senior officer of the central Security Service.
The Indian government is preparing to set up a center that will monitor social media activity 24 hours a day!
