Walter Isaacson talks about Apple's new product
The biography of Steve Jobs was released shortly after his death, on October 5, 2011.
Isaacson has written a new book, titled "The Innovators: How a Group of Hackers, Geniuses, and Geeks Created the Digital Revolution," which examines how Steve Jobs and other technology pioneers influenced the digital information age we live in today.
Speaking to Gizmodo about his book, Isaacson also answered questions about his thoughts on the "post-Steve Jobs" era at Apple, specifically, the creation of the Apple Watch and whether he himself would buy such a product.
“Yes. I think the Apple Watch is an incredibly exciting product. And because that’s related to the question of ‘where is all this leading us,’ my book is about this: instead of pursuing the chimera of artificial intelligence, where machines will think without us, what has been and will be particularly successful in the future is about developing closer relationships with ourselves and our machines—having them more integrated into our lives.”
"Being able to tap my watch and order a car is a leap of innovation that a decade ago would have seemed daunting. I think the biggest innovation has been making technology more personal and more social," he said, according to a Business Insider report.
Isaacson spent a lot of time with Steve Jobs, being his official biographer. He is perhaps one of the few people, outside of Apple, who got a good "taste" of his personality.
The Apple Watch is the first product the company will release in which Steve Jobs had no involvement, as this program began shortly after his death.
Isaacson believes that the digital world's emphasis on the development of artificial intelligence is misplaced. Instead, he believes that we should be aiming to create technology that enables "intimate connections," like the technology in the Apple Watch, the article concludes.
