Anyone who enters their password in a public place to access their iPhone should probably think twice and three times.
Cases of personal code theft are on the rise, according to a new study from the University of Massachusetts to be presented in August. Potential thieves obtain PINs in a simple way: they videotape the unsuspecting user as they enter their code and, through the movements of their fingers, they perceive their secret number.
As the research team notes, the Huffington Post notes, the hackers are using the cameras from common smartphones, iPhones and Google's latest discovery, Google Glass.
Their attempt can be made remotely, meaning it is not necessary for the user and the perpetrator to be close together, and the success rate of the illegal operation in the first attempt reaches a worrying 80% and in the second 95%. Which means that the danger is immediate and certain.
The researchers say that this patent could be extended from the iPhone to the PINs that people enter at bank ATMs to withdraw money. One solution is to not use common passwords across different platforms and generally change our passwords at regular intervals.
Experts say that of all the devices that can cause the most damage, Google Glass has the potential to become something like a moving Big Brother.
