The University of Piraeus is pioneering once again. In the Conference Hall (Orange Amphitheater) of the University, it is organizing a conference entitled:

“Cryptographic protocols for protecting anonymity and privacy”

Description:

Although the use of applied cryptographic protocols has been primarily associated with ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of information, an important field of applied cryptography includes protocols and applications for privacy protection. As technology makes increasingly easier mass-scale monitoring of communications, censorship, and the lack of privacy possible, protocols and applications for anonymity protection on the Internet are emerging as a vital area of research and implementation.

This seminar is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students, IT and telecommunications graduates and any other interested party who wants to delve into basic anonymity and privacy protection protocols. Continuing last year's seminar on Anonymity on the Internet, in this seminar we will emphasize the technical description of well-known anonymity and privacy protection protocols.

Dionysis Zindros will describe the basic background of cryptographic protocols, briefly outlining key symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic algorithms, to help us understand the fundamental building blocks of applied cryptography protocols. George Kargiotakis will show us the evolutionary path of cryptography in network connections, the differences between HTTP and HTTPS protocols, the PKI model, DNSSEC, and the security and privacy issues of these protocols.

George Chatzisofroniou will present the basic anonymity assurance protocols, such as example protocols based on DC-nets, mix-nets and onion routing. Finally, Alexander Afentoulis will talk to us about LEAP, a project that aims to create a communication platform that offers security, privacy, transparency and usability.
