Twice Used: Making devices from damaged iPhones! (Photos)

twiceTwice Used is the name of Chris Kerner's program, which is essentially an iPhone recycling "service" that takes broken phones and then creates completely new objects from their components.

Kerner turned to Kickstarter to raise funding for his project. Twice Used produces items that seemingly have nothing to do with Apple's popular smartphone, such as earrings, watches, decorations, and more.

The creator of Twice Used worked in a repair shop, where he noticed that many of the broken parts were being thrown away. These parts ended up in landfills, often with harmful effects on the environment, so he believes that his program can, beyond the purely "fun" part of the whole thing (which implies, for example, owning a watch made from iPhone material), Twice Used also helps protect the environment.

"There's always going to be a market for this," Kerner told Mashable. "People have always broken their phones and will always break them...if I didn't have experience in repairing phones, I wouldn't have known that these materials are harmful to the environment.".

The parts used come from other repair shops. While would-be owners of devices built from iPhones can't send their broken phones directly to Twice Used, they can buy items already built from old phones by visiting the Kickstarter page, which serves as a reference point until the official website is set up.

Twice Used has received positive reviews from many technology websites, such as CNET, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, etc.
