Seagate has announced the thinnest 2.5" drive on the market with a capacity of 2 TB . It is the Spinpoint M9T , which is 9.5 mm high and was manufactured by its subsidiary, Samsung HDD.
The Spinpoint M9T will be available in 1.5 and 2TB and, according to Seagate, is intended for use in both PCs and laptops, as well as external drive models and consoles .
Low -cost Ultrabooks that don't use SSDs are a category that fits right in with the new M9T, as will portable external drives that will become less bulky.
The Spinpoint M9T has a SATA 6Gb/s interface and Seagate promises silent operation, through the NoiseGuard and SilentSeek that are integrated.
The first products to feature M9T drives will be Samsung's own M3 and P3 series of external drives , which are currently 17.5mm thick. With the M9T, they are expected to become considerably thinner.
