After years of neglect, Twitter announced on Wednesday that it has completely revamped and updated Twitter for Mac clients.
The announcement was made at Flight, Twitter, which took place in San Francisco.
Twitter 's Jeff Siebert has provided a first look at the app, which is expected to launch later this year (an exact date was not given). Screenshots from the app appear to show shortcuts for inserting emoji and photos into messages and tweets.
The app will finally support videos, Vine playback, Group DMs, and notifications for the most important shares and replies to other tweets.
It will also support a new black background, which we can say is very beautiful.
Twitter for Mac started life as Tweetie for Mac back in 2010. Then, after Twitter acquired Tweetie for iOS and Mac, it continued its development, before being sidelined a few years later. Over the years, very few employees have maintained the app (its main maintainer left Twitter in 2014), which was a late adopter of Twitter's new features .
Other apps – including Tweetbot – have been substitutes for Twitter on Mac for its loyal followers.
There was no update on whether Tweetdeck – the app that Twitter purchased in 2011 – would also be updated or not.
