The New Amazon Fire Tablet is Coming with a 6-inch Screen and a Cost of $50
Amazon appears to be working on a new 6-inch Amazon FireTablet, launching later this year. The device will retail for just $50, making it one of the most affordable tablets available on the market.
Amazon's existing 6-inch tablet is available for $99, while this new 6-inch Amazon FireTablet will be half the price of the current model.
In addition to the new 6-inch version, the company also plans to launch a new 8-inch Amazon Fire Tablet and a new 10-inch model.
The news comes in a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, which has obtained some information about Amazon's plans for this year's tablet lineup. Amazon also plans to release a new Kindle reader that will also sell for $50, while the current model is available for $79.
Amazon has outsourced the development of its new, cheaper Fire Tablets to two companies, Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology Co. and Compal Communications Inc., in a move that appears to be aimed at keeping the cost of the device low.
The existing $99 6-inch FireTablet comes with ads, the same model is available without ads for $114, so it's more than likely that this new $50 tablet will also come with ads.
Amazon has done well with Fire Tablets so far, but the company didn't do so well with the Amazon Fire Phone, which was basically a flop. There's no word on when these new tablets will be available, but we'll let you know as soon as we have more information about the release date and specs.
