PRESS RELEASE – The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) investigated a case of extortion and defamation, via the internet and telephone calls, against a 33-year-old Greek national

A case was filed against (3) local women for the case

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) investigated a case of extortion and defamation, via the internet and telephone calls, against a 33-year-old Greek national. file was filed against three (3) Greek women, aged 35, 40 and 59.

The investigation into the case began following her complaint according to which unknown individuals, through posts on three blogs, had systematically and fraudulently defamed her since January of this year, while blackmailing her into paying them the sum of ninety thousand (90,000) euros in order to stop making similar publications.

Additionally, they proceeded to make malicious calls daily to break her resistance and force her to pay them the aforementioned amount of money.

The above was brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office and a preliminary examination was ordered to be conducted, to investigate the accused and to provide the necessary information from the competent internet providers.

In this context, a thorough and in-depth police and digital - online investigation of the facts and data of the case was carried out, from which it emerged that the electronic traces of the individuals who made the posts in question corresponded to connections in the Athens and Tripoli areas.

Subsequently, simultaneous house searches were carried out in Athens and Tripoli, in the presence of Judicial Officers, from which the participation in the acts under investigation of the above three Greek women was ascertained.

Additionally, during the investigations (2) internal hard drives and (1) external hard drive were found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.

The regular procedure file drawn up for the case will be submitted to the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, in accordance with the orders.
