«As part of our efforts to examine the problem, Copart asks all its members to change their access password for their Copart .com account,» said Sean Eldridge, the vice president of Copart, in his letter.

«If you have not already been asked recently to change your password, simply sign in to your Cορart account, and go to the Change Password option under the My Account tab. Also, if you use the same username and password for any other of your accounts, we recommend that you change those passwords immediately.» added to his statement.

On March 31, 2015, when the company discovered that an unauthorized person had gained access to its network, it acted swiftly and immediately took the necessary actions to prevent further access by this unauthorized user.

A leading cybersecurity firm was hired for this investigation. It helps the company determine what happened to the company's system that could have been compromised and also helps it implement enhanced security measures.

In order to be protected, the company has advised its members to remain "vigilant" by regularly checking their accounts (bank and non‑bank) for any unauthorized activity.

Eldridge said that if any member believes their personal information has been misused, they should contact the Federal Trade Commission or the office of the state attorney general that distributes it.
