Google: aims to eliminate roaming charges, considers creating a global network
Two months after announcing the creation of its own mobile network, Google has begun looking for ways to eliminate roaming fees.
The technology giant is in talks with Hutchison Whampoa, the owner of the Three network, to find a way to allow users of its network to make calls and send messages to any country in the world, no matter where they are, at no extra cost.
Sources in the field report that the companies are discussing a "wholesale access agreement" that would help Google create a global network, notes a report in the British newspaper Daily Mail.
Customers of the network will be able to use this global network to make calls, send messages and use data within their own plan, regardless of where in the world they are located.
Google vice president Sundar Pichai confirmed rumors that his company was planning to launch a mobile network plan during a panel discussion at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last February.
