This popular app has surpassed traditional text messages (SMS) by 10 billion. According to a study conducted by the Economist magazine, last year users exchanged 30 billion messages via the app and 20 billion SMS.
So-called messaging apps have experienced an "explosion" in popularity in recent years, thanks to the development of "smart" mobile devices with fast internet connections (3G and 4G).
WhatsApp founded in 2009 and was acquired by Facebook for $19 billion. The founder of the most popular social media platform, Mark Zuckerberg, had described its services as "incredibly valuable."
According to MailOnline, the app is used by over 450 million users per month, while currently over a million users sign up for it per day!
