The procedures for having the first space mission with the participation of a Greek astronaut within the next 15 years have been initiated by the members of the si-cluster, the collaborative formation (cluster) created for the field of space technologies and applications and for the aerospace industry in general.

This was mentioned during a press conference by si-cluster, where the high growth rates demonstrated by Greek companies operating in the aerospace industry were highlighted.

Specifically, in 2014 the number of companies – members of the cluster increased from 22 to 38, while there are 30 more applications. The total turnover is estimated to have been 150 million euros, showing an increase of 17% compared to 2013, while the most impressive element is that exports increased by 117% last year.

In addition, the companies of the si-cluster made 100 hires in 2014, bringing the total number of employees to 1500, most of whom are specialized personnel. According to the members of the si-cluster, several of the hires involved Greek scientists who were working abroad and found the opportunity to return to our country.

This year's plans include, among other things, the operation of an "incubator" in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). The relevant space has already been created and the goal is to select 5-10 new companies operating in the aerospace industry in the coming months to be hosted in the incubator.
