The person stated, "We want justice. Sony doesn't. This is an uphill battle."
He then gave some details about how the attack. “Sony doesn’t lock its doors, literally, so we worked with other staff members with similar interests to gain access,” the person writes, “unfortunately I can’t say more, the security of our team is important.” These phrases suggest that the hackers, or their collaborators, were somehow working at Sony.
Sony's system, however, remains down globally, and while the deadline given by the hackers has passed, the files they managed to steal have not been made public. These files include both trivial and highly sensitive and confidential corporate information.
The company's official statement now reads: "Sony Pictures Entertainment has experienced a system outage and is working diligently to resolve it."
