The percentage in 2014 was 65.6%, an increase of 16.5% compared to 2013
Approximately seven out of ten households in the country (65.6%) had access to the Internet from their home in 2014, a number that is 16.5% higher than in 2013.

The largest increase is recorded in Central Greece and the Aegean islands and Crete, by 53.2% and 39.3%, respectively.
These data arise from the ELSTAT household use survey of information and communication technologies in 2014, according to which:
– Approximately 7 in 10 households (64.7%) use a broadband connection for the Internet at home, while the vast majority (98.6%) of households that have access to the Internet from their home use a broadband connection.
– 58.4% of those who used the Internet in the first quarter of 2014 connected to the Internet, outside their home and workplace, using a mobile phone or smartphone, a portable computer (laptop, notebook, netbook or tablet) or another portable device (PDA, MP3 player, e-book reader, portable game console, etc.), showing an increase of 30.7%, compared to the first quarter of 2013.
– Online reading of news on websites, newspapers, magazines is at the top of the list of online activities and is carried out by 84.9% of internet users, recording an increase of 10% compared to 2013. Searching for information about products and services is the second most carried out activity by 82.3% of users, recording a small decrease of 1% compared to 2013.
Specifically, the percentages recorded in 2014 for activities carried out via the internet, in descending order, are as follows:
– Reading online news on websites, newspapers, magazines 84.9%.
– Search for information about products and services 82.3%.
– Sending or receiving emails 79.8%.
– Participation in social networking sites (facebook, twitter, etc.) 64.3%.
– Games, pictures, movies, music 52%.
– Web radio or web television 51.6%.
– Making calls or video calls, using a webcam via the internet (Skype) 45%.
– “Uploading” text, photos, music, videos, software, etc. to a website in order to share them with others 34.3%.
– Use of services for travel and accommodation 29.7%.
– Carrying out banking transactions 20.8%.
– Creating a website or blog 6.7%.
– Sale of goods or services through auctions, e.g. via e-Bay, 5.7%.
– Making an appointment with a doctor through the hospital or health center website 2.9%.
Finally, a 26.7% increase is recorded in the percentage of the population that used e-government services (every transaction by citizens with public services via the internet, for personal use).
