The abandonment of the Nokia brand name comes despite Microsoft's agreement to use the Nokia name on mobile products for a decade.
About half a year after acquiring the mobile phone division of Finnish company Nokia, which was once a dominant player in the mobile market, US-based Microsoft will no longer use the Nokia name on new smartphone models. According to the BBC, new Nokia Lumia will now be called Microsoft Lumia.
The Finnish company's mobile division, which was acquired by Microsoft in April for $7.2 billion, will continue to use the Nokia name.

The abandonment of the Nokia brand name, according to the BBC, comes despite Microsoft's agreement to use the Nokia name on mobile products for a decade. The American company is in the midst of a major internal reorganization and recently its CEO Satya Nadella announced the cutting of 18,000 jobs, of which 12,500 will concern Nokia staff.
