During the "Moment of Truth" event held in New Zealand, Kim Dotcom announced that his encrypted video conferencing service (like Skype) is ready.
Although you can't find it on the MEGA website, it has still been used to safely attend the event by whistleblower Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks chief Julian Assange.
“I’m really passionate about keeping everyone safe,” Kim Dotcom proudly declared at the event, following Julian Assange’s intervention, in which he harshly attacked the New Zealand government for spying on its own citizens.
The new service, which will be part of the Mega, allows people to join video conferences that are fully encrypted. Dotcom likens it to a much-improved version of Skype that gives people the security they need to stay under the radar of intelligence agencies around the world.
The service isn't available through a special program that needs to be installed on your computer. Instead, Dotcom says it's browser-based, making it very easy to use.
The fact that Dotcom's company has been working on such a tool is no secret. Its plans have been known since last year, after the NSA scandal began, when the mass surveillance programs of the NSA and its partners came to light.
