Google introduces kids to the basics of programming with Blockly Games

Internet

Google has introduced a special collection of online games called Blockly Games, which guide and encourage children in their first steps in programming.

Blockly Games includes a wide range of educational games that teach programming and encourage tomorrow's programmers to explore computer science.

"Are you looking for ways to engage your children in constructive and meaningful self-learning?" writes Google 's Jennifer Vaden Barth in a related blog post.

“We have released Blockly Games, the evolution of Blockly, a web-based graphical programming environment.” “As part of a new generation of programming environments that provide a more accessible introduction to coding, Blockly Games allows users to create and run programs by arranging blocks with a simple click.”.

The idea is to "encourage you and your child to explore Blockly Games, which are a great way for budding programmers of all ages to get started. With Blockly Games, the whole family can learn the fundamental concepts of computer science.".

Blockly Games require little to no typing, which makes it easier for new or novice programmers to learn the basics of programming in an intuitive way, Barth says.

“By minimizing the use of syntax, users are able to focus on the logic and concepts used in computer science, progressing and learning at their own pace as they move through mazes and more advanced stages,” he points out.
