Microsoft is launching a mobile phone for the poor with the aim of gaining market share in Asia and Africa, two huge and promising markets. The phone is the NOKIA 130, which will cost just 19 euros.
The company described it as “the ideal phone for first-time mobile buyers or those looking for a reliable second phone in addition to their existing smartphone.” The phone is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year in select markets, including China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam.
“As the demand for affordable phones continues to grow, Microsoft remains committed to leading the mobile market, both in innovation and value,” said Jo Harlow, Microsoft’s vice president of mobile. “It is estimated that nearly 1 billion people still do not own a mobile phone, while demand for reliable second phones is growing in both developed and emerging markets.”.
