On the occasion of the summer season and with the aim of protecting consumers, as well as controlling charges, EETT recommends:To check mobile phone & Internet charges
- Find out in detail about:
- the basic features and instructions for using your device,
- any automatic download of updates and the ability to disable automatic Internet connection,
- the ability to choose how to access the Internet via WiFi or through your provider's network, as well as for
- the current charges for access and wireless data transfer applied by mobile telephony providers, in Greece and abroad.
- Confirm that the use of your services is included in the package you have chosen.
- When you are near the country's borders, disable automatic network search and "lock" your device to your provider's network to avoid unwanted roaming charges.
- If you are abroad, exercise caution when using telephone and Internet services to avoid increased roaming charges.
- Please be extra careful when choosing to automatically download updates for your applications via the Internet. As an additional measure, you can disable your device's automatic access to the Internet and enable it when you wish.
- When downloading files (e.g. videos, downloads from email applications, etc.), please exercise special caution:
- the size of the files you "download",
- If the files are downloaded via WiFi or through your provider's network, make sure you don't quickly exhaust the MB of your budget plan, resulting in financial burden.
- If it is not already activated, ask your provider to activate the "free talk time, SMS or data volume consumption notification" service and find out about its terms. With this service, when you are about to exceed the talk time, SMS or data volume of the package you have chosen, your provider will inform you by text message (SMS).
- Find out how you can control your own consumption of talk time, SMS and data volume of your financial package.
For consumer protection
- Please exercise caution when connecting to freely accessible, public wireless local networks (free public WiFi hotspots).
- Download applications only from trusted sources and avoid visiting links whose origin you have not checked.
- Turn off Bluetooth when you are not using it.
- Implement security rules such as locking down data usage with personal passwords.
- Contact your provider or specialized retail outlets to learn about ways to protect and safely use your device.
To facilitate postal shipments
- To locate the nearest ELTA or courier company postal service point, select the Postal Geographic System application from the EETT website or download the "EETT Postal" application for smartphones.
Especially for corporate users
- Take, in collaboration with your provider, measures to protect your telecommunications network from any malicious actions that may lead, among other things, to excessive charges.
