The rumor has been circulating for a while, but Facebook recently told TechCrunch that the moment has arrived – starting “over the next few days” every user will be able to use Messenger to chat directly with their Facebook friends via mobile devices (iOS, Android, and Windows Phone).
Some users in Europe have been seeing the change for several months, but Facebook claims that their positive response has led to the app being rolled out worldwide. Of course, not everyone will be happy about getting a second app to do what someone else was already able to do – just ask Foursquare users about Swarm.
Facebook says the change will allow it to focus its development efforts on better integrating the two apps separately, and "avoid confusion" from users, who send about 12 billion messages a day on the platform.
