Six-year-old Axex Pring, from Florida, had the misfortune of being born without an arm, and prosthetic surgery for children is expensive, due to the frequent changes that must be made to the additional limbs as the child grows..
Life has been extremely difficult for six-year-old Alex Pring, from Florida, after the child was born without an arm, which happens to 1,000 children a year. The little boy could not do the simplest things that his peers do, but the decision to have prosthetic surgery was prohibitive for the family, as it costs $40,000.
The little boy's family's insurance company refused to cover the surgery, which for children requires constant renewals and is considered a costly procedure.
The six-year-old's mother, Alyson, turned to E-nable, a website that builds robotic limbs for children. Albert Manero, a graduate of the University of Central Florida, listened carefully to little Alex's story and built him a robotic arm on a 3D printer.
The plastic limb cost just $350 and took just a few weeks to make. The six-year-old's new arm runs on household batteries and opens and closes with a device attached to the child's arm muscles.
The little boy is excited that he now finally has two hands and the first thing he did was run to hug his mother with both of his hands now!
